Now that Andrew has joined, ask him questions about the band...or anything.

PLEASE DO NOT ASK WHEN THEY ARE COMING TO YOUR CITY!

NO, ANDREW DOESN'T REMEMBER ANY OF THE PLACES/VENUES/SHOWS HE'S BEEN TO (BECAUSE HE WAS HIGH OR DRUNK OR BOTH) SO STOP ASKING ABOUT IT -JORDAN

NO OVER-PERSONAL OR JUST PLAIN USELESS QUESTIONS!!!

Like were you sort of known through out the school or "popular'?
did you think you were going to be as successful as you are now at that point in time?

I have pasted Andrews responces below so this can be used as a reference and also to help stop questions being asked that already have an answer.

The next set of questions will get a separate post.

Band/General:

6 or 7 years I believe.
When will you come to Indianapolis?

What are the lyrics to the new songs?

I dont know, sometime after the new year. This next tour is western states. Gotta ask thomas, they change a lot too.

Im sick of hearing about gibson and orange endorsements....howd you get involved with creation drums...ive never heard of them until i saw you playin them...is there some story behind this?

The drummer from Fear Before the March of Flames worked for them, I needed a drum sponsor and they were cool with taking me on. The company has since been sold and I dont know anyone working for it now, so I will prolly be getting a different kit/sponsor sometime in the near future.

How much impact has Frank had on the old songs and the new songs for POTH and the new record?

They are a thousand times tighter, and we are able to put more difficult bass parts in them. He picks up parts really quickly also.

What caused you guys to finally decide to release Phantoms on the Horizon and why in this fashion?

We had an opportunity for some free studio time, we wanted to put something out before the new year, they are way overdue to be redone, and we just felt like it. Haha, we had been kicking the idea around for awhile and this seemed like a great time to do it. Plus we got to surprise everyone!

5 main tracks with interludes between.

Nah, other than knowing the bass parts would kick more ass now.

How much have you guys changed the Ghostships for this record compared to the old demos? And are there keys?

The songs are pretty much the same, but there are lots more instruments this time around... There are some that have never been in any fall of troy song ever.

Alright here is the next set of questions. Post questions and they will be quoted here. After quoting and transferring Andrews answers over all posts will be deleted. Hope that helps.

Well knowing there's only 5 parts now, what happened to Part 6 and Semi-Fiction?

Part 6 was always semi-fiction and when we did manipulator we thought about it and realized it didn't fit with the rest of the songs. We originally wrote 1-5 and after those were complete we wrote 6/semi-fiction and it showed, it wasn't consistent with the rest. For everyone who's worried there won't be enough on the record, I can tell you its just under 40 minutes so there is actually a lot on there for an ep.

I wonder if the interludes have vocals or just instrumental?

I dont want to give it away. They sound like abandoned robot factories ten-thousand-years in the future. (dunno if i used hyphens right there but im stoned and it felt good(im gay) - a beautiful lady named ashley wrote that cos shes stoned too)

Will we be able to buy a hardcopy online and have it shipped to us?

Possibly, my brother and me (like that nickelodeon reference?) are working on something far cooler than that but i would like everyone to be able to get a physical copy of the cd at some point, possibly after all the tours are done.

Are you going to play anything else besides Phantom on the Horizon on the next tour? And if you are, can we expect more new songs from the LP being released in March?

There will be old shit and the newest shit, along with PotH played straight through. Its gonna be an event and I highly recommend coming out.

And when can we expect the tour dates?

Sometime in the next week I think. I have them but have been told to keep them under wraps so as to not "ruin the surprise". Ha.

What's the cover art for poth?

In one incarnation it is being done by thomas's roommate. There will be an individual drawing for each part as well. I just got it tonight, and the black demon and the captain are sweet, I have the captain as my background right now.

Quote

How do you feel about the recording quality for this EP?
Do you think it matches, or exeeds the fan-favorite quality of the Demo's?

We recorded with Casey Bates who is more versed in Pro-Tools than anyone I know or have ever seen. The demos were recorded in Nuendo and we all know how much you love those. To me the EP sounds like a fuller more kickass version of the demos. The drum sound is still fairly sharp while not being obviously digital. I think it exceeds the demos because it sounds similar but much better. When I heard part one with just guitar bass and drums, I was concerned that it was too close to the original, but as we added other instruments and vocals it took on a life of its own.

Quote

Also, would you say alot of parts have changed in-song? Or have the songs remained similar to their demo'd versions.

Almost nothing has changed except for the bass parts and a few other little things that probably only me and thomas would notice.

Quote

Over the last year, do you feel the band has stepped it up a few knotches? if so, what do you think the fall of troy offers now then before?

Yeah I do. I feel like we are more together as a live band since Frank joined. A lot of bass parts have been changed too, frank can play with fingers and thats something we've never been able to do.
--------------------------------------------------------------

thanks again doods, more than happy to see so many people participating. if you have questions unrelated to the band i will try my best to answer those as well, and i will always answer respectful questions about the band best as i can. you guys are fun, this seems like the cream of the crop of the old forums.

2.) To clarify, because i want to know, you plan on releasing all three of the new songs that you guys have played (Vomiting, Keel-Hauled, Battleship) on a LP to be made later? or what exactly are these songs going on? (People tell me four different things, and i just need some clarification from a band member).

Yeah those songs are from the full length we are writing for after Phantom. We have ten songs written and will prolly write 8-10 more. There is a ton of new stuff just waiting to be recorded.

Quote

3.) When (AND IF, BUT HOPEFULLY) you come to chicago, do you know what venue you are playing/would like to play (if not already chose and all)?

No clue, prolly on the tour after this one, I would love to hear some suggestions.

Quote

Can we get your participation in No-Shave November?

I just shaved and I could go back to the beard/stache but looking young feels good. One time a lady tried to guess my age and said "32" and that was with a kickass mustache. Since then I've felt weird about having one.

Quote

Personally, what band(s) would you love to go on tour with?

The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Minus the Bear, Radiohead. Anyone I respect really. TV on the Radio would be more realistic but still I dont think theyd take us out.

Quote

Favorite Mexican food dish?

I had these deep fried hard chicken tacos the other day, I dont remember what the actual name was, it was just amazing.

Quote

Can you tell us if the tour is starting or ending in Seattle?

Neither, we will be playing Spokane and Tacoma at the end however. Look for a Seattle show sometime in the holiday or new year season.

Quote

Any chance you're coming back to the U.K. any time soon?

Yeah prolly after the New Year.

Quote

Better yet, any chance you're coming to Scotland anytime soon?

I would guess if we're coming over there we will hit Scotland. I'd like to do Edinburgh, but we'll see, if we do get to Scotland it'll be Glasgow for sure and maybe Edinburgh. I prolly spelled that wrong.

Quote

Also, how much money would it take for you to seriously consider getting a mullet?
What's your price, dude?

500 Scottish pounds. I hate that haircut and my hair is not suited for it.

(alejo @ Oct 30 2008, 07:10 PM) Posted ImageWhat was your favorite Saved by the Bell episode? If you didn't watch the show, say the one when Jessie starts taking drugs, because that's the correct answer. [I NEED THEM TO STUDY!!!!]

That one is good, I think the one where the famous guy comes to the school to shoot an anti-drug ad, and then tries to get them to smoke pot is pretty classic tho.

Quote

add a keyboardist?

Maybe a touring one at some point, but the band will prolly always be a 3-piece at heart. Its just been that way for so long it would be weird to change, I'll never say never though.

Quote

(dylantheworm! @ Oct 30 2008, 09:36 PM) Posted ImageWhat do think about the recording quality for Manipulator? For me, that was a major gripe, and I think it was many others' as well.

I like some things about it and I dont like other things, the cymbals aren't loud enough in my opinion and the vocals are too loud in parts too. But I love the snare sound and the clean guitars. When we were mixing, we had Matt mix each song individually as an experiment, with every other record we get a base mix and tweak it when we need to. At the time we thought it sounded really cool, but as time progresses opinions change.

(dfeingold @ Oct 30 2008, 10:56 PM) Posted ImageDoes that eventful thing on your myspace, where you can "DEMAND THE FALL OF TROY" in your city really make a difference, or not so much?

If there was a crazy amount of people from a place we would probably consider going there if we hadn't planned on it, or had never been, but I think for the most part our fans ignore or don't think those things matter so its hard to get a read on how many people actually want us to come in reality. Basically if you make it make a difference, then it will.

Quote

(JMR @ Oct 31 2008, 03:05 PM) Posted ImageWould Frank rather be called Black Frank, or, Frank Purple?

Probably just Frank, but I have a nickname for him.... haha

Quote

(CujoEtner @ Nov 1 2008, 02:02 PM) Posted ImageCan we expect some tracks of off Phantom up on the Myspace soon?

I would think so, but maybe not a whole one, or one of the short ones, because theres only 5 tracks, and we kinda want to save it for as close to the release as possible. Maybe not though, maybe we'll put em all up.

Quote

(Monty @ Oct 31 2008, 04:22 PM) Posted ImageDo you guys (thomas and Andrew) still have nightmares about the van crash in Canada?

No, usually my band-related nightmares have to do with me and thomas deciding for me to play the guitar for a whole show, getting to the show, setting up, walking out to a huge crowd, and realizing I have no idea how to play our songs, but thomas just keeps telling me to try. Pretty irrational, but thats it.

Quote

(alejo @ Nov 2 2008, 11:30 AM) Posted ImageWhat were you for Halloween? Two parter, what was your favorite Halloween costume ever?

A bag of Jelly-Belly's, and either a barrel of toxic waste, or a Snapple Pink Lemonaide bottle, with a close third being a Ghostbuster with "Forsman" on the breast. My mom always made the best ones.

Is there any song you guys don't enjoy playing anymore, or do you still like them all?

We've had some really good ones in or around LA, like at the Glasshouse, the Troubadour, Chain. It's hard to tell what my best one was, because even if I'm killing it, if something else goes wrong it taints the whole show in my eyes.

Used to hate Cut Down All the Trees and FCP but theyve both come full circle and I highly enjoy them again.

Possibly, that would make sense.

Party in the school bus in the back at Reggie's, showing up like 20 minutes before we went on with the Deftones, one of the craziest small shows we have ever played with melos, damiera, and portugal at some super weird venue. Chicago is always awesome times.

We'd love to, I just dont think enough people know/care about us for it to be an economically sound show. The club would prolly lose money and that means they would rather not. Or maybe I'm wrong and we could fill a place like that, I just dunno.

Before Doppelganger because every other drum you can hit with two seperate limbs and I wanted fair and equal rights for my bass drum.

Doubtful. Unless someone wants to pay for a sweet one.

If it was finacially viable. I got kids to feed!

Sometimes. We love Little America in Montana. Most of the time we're just trying to get to the venue so we dont have to be in the van any longer. We saw one of those "Thing" signs on our last tour and thomas would not shut the fuck up about going to it, but I was driving so I had control. Someone looked it up on wiki and it was a native american mummy or some crap. So Im glad I kept driving. Whenever we see an amusement park there are always cries to "call the venue and tell them we broke down and cant make it" so we can go, but that has never happened.

Pack of Wolves, cos its Tre from At All Cost and he is one of the best people in texas. Eric Mugatu is also one of the best people from texas but not in it.

Which album/song do you think conveys the "true" The Fall of Troy sound, and why? If you can't pick one, do you guys think you've found your sound with the new full-length, or are you still going to progress?

They are all just different points in the progression of the band. I don't think we'll ever be a band like pennywise or the offspring or the ramones where they dont really differ from a set formula. That said our new album is different, our stage manager Shay (who's top band is prolly The Smoking Popes, and if you havent heard them they are not like us at all) thinks its the best stuff we've written. We haven't played it for anyone else really, other than the songs we've done live and recorded for the web.

1.) what do you, andrew, feel that bands biggest accomplshment(s) is/are to this day?

2.) waterfall backdrop for the next tour? haha you guys need to get on that shit soon man, i'm expecting it one day!

3.) have you guys ever talked about/considered doing a live cd/dvd combo, or just dvd or cd? or is that something you guys aren't interested in releasing ever?

1. Guitar Hero III, every album, trips overseas. Anything that lets me know that there are people out there who are appreciating it.

2. Its been done by others, so we are working on other stupid ideas haha.

3. Yeah, it will happen at some point. We just have some other things to do first.

who sings on the end of the macaulay ghostship demo version? is that tim?

Yeah, he wasn't the best singer at that point so we put all that filter on it.

Hey so is the split EP with the # 12 ever gonna happen or is that just like a rumor?

Is the saxophone thing that's in the keys version of part V still there?

CAN YOU PLEASE PUT ONE SONG UP ON MYSPACE?

1. Maybe someday, I'll talk to Alex about it tomorrow ha.

2. No horns on the new EP.

3. Maybe.

has thomas always written the basslines?...even before frank joined?

Most of 'em yeah. Frank has more of a hand in it these days tho.

as there been any considerations of a tera melos/tfot spit?

I've never talked to them about it but thomas may have. I'd love to, I just wanna put out as much stuff as possible.

What are your thoughts on Coheed & Cambria's music?

Old stuff is good, but I've never been super into it. I could hum you some parts but I wouldnt be able to tell you any names.

How would you guys feel about people suporting the band doing street art (stickers, stencils, wheat-pastes, etc,.)?

That would be rad, if anyone does or has, please PM and send me some pics.

Another question:
A lot of guitarists look up to Thom because of his style and the tone he uses. We all know his set up, but can we know his amp/pedal settings to get the signature distortion. I've heard it's the Turbo Tube Screamer and Big Muff Pi working together, but I wanted to make sure if it's cool. Thanks!

Ill get back to ya on that.

andrew, over the last few years theres been an ongoing verbal war of 'when are you releasing the ghostship demos?' 'they'll be released at some point, can't you be enthusiastic about what we're writing now?'

1) Were you boys every board of the actual tracks or was it just the constant nagging?
2) if you were fed up of them, has re-recording them re kindled your love?
3) if you weren't fed up, would you say that it was the constant pressure for a release that made you record them before your next full length? or have you always been looking ofr an opportunity to get these out?
thanks

1. No, they have always been my sanctuary when any other song got old.
2. -
3. I always wanted to do it, and fate just made it possible and easy when it did, so I think now was just the time it was supposed to happen.

I've noticed you guys listen to a lot of music on the more poppy side of things. Was there ever a phase where you would listen to the more underground shit, like Hella, Lightning Bolt and stuff like that?

Oh yeah, I'll still throw on Wonderful Rainbow or Hold Your Horse Is from time to time. I love Battles and Daughters and other strange bands haha. There is a very weird one in Seattle called Capillary Action that I think is great.

in a man a plan a canal panama, the lyrics go "
Lost my sense of direction, de-railed, eject, off the starboard side.
Who am I to demand their lives? Their fate is mine.
Will I survive?" was this intended to be gs pt 8?

will part 6 be recorded as something else?

also i want to thank you for coming on the forums, it sucked when the boards closed because there was no connection with the band, oh btw poth = AMAZING

1. No, I think thomas just loves ocean metaphors.
2. 6 is Semi-Fiction, so its already out.

did you guys cream your pants to the breakdown in Chapter V:The Walls Bled Lust

Yeah, to me it sounds like a demon puking blood and fire. Which is exactly what I wanted.

Hey Andrew, how come thomas switched a lot of screaming parts to singing?

He liked how it sounded more.

How'd the show go tonight?

It was stressful leading upto the actual show, because our CD's weren't delivered to the venue so our TM had to go with the promoter to the Fedex office, and so merch was all wacky. The kids were cool, but I think a lot of people didn't know what was going on with us playing Phantom. The music was fun though. I would give it a B- overall. Not too bad for the first show of the tour.
